Reading Intervention Teacher
As a Reading Intervention Teacher for grades 7-8, I have taught reading comprehension, morphology, and English Language Arts curriculum to classes ranging in size from 14 to 28 students. Students in this program were selected due to either remedial reading or advanced reading skills ranging from 2nd to 9th grade level. I utilized the Basic Reading Inventory, Degrees of Reading Power, Words Their Way, and various informal assessments to collect data, guide instruction, and to monitor progress.
Reading Assessment & Instruction to Drive Student Achievement
Managing a classroom and driving student achievement requires weekly assessment of each student's current reading level. Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to work one-on-one with a 6th grade student at the Center for Literacy and Reading Instruction (CLARI) and to co-teach a small group Guided Reading class at Amherst Central School District’s summer reading clinic. The Guided Reading position required weekly consultation with both the students and parents to provide effective at-home reading strategies. My supervisor has commended my ability to successfully manage a classroom and raise student reading levels.
Teaching Diverse Reading Programs & Technologies
Teaching students with reading levels ranging from 2nd to 9th grade, I have taught a diverse range of reading programs including Language!, Guided Reading, Open Court, Bridges to Literature, and Words Their Way. I am proficient with Promethian Board technologies, Blogs, Wikis, and Podcasts. Likewise, I am highly skilled in digital video literacy and have experience leading and developing a professional development course at City Voices, City Visions with Buffalo Public School teachers.
